The Chevrolet Kadett is a variant of the Opel Kadett E produced by General Motors Brazil from 1989 to 1998 .

Model history

After GM Brazil had already been producing the Kadett C under the name Chevrolet Chevette from 1973 , the local version of the Kadett E followed in April 1989. For Brazil, the three-door hatchback was selected , which was available in the versions SL, SL / E and GS. The engines (1.8 liter displacement, maximum output 70 kW, later 73 kW (95 PS or 99 PS) and 2.0 liter displacement, maximum output 81 kW / 110 PS) came from the Brazilian Chevrolet Monza .

Shortly thereafter, the Kadett E station wagon followed, which was called Chevrolet Ipanema in Brazil and was initially only available as a three-door model with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine in the SL and SL / E versions.

From September 1991, both engines in the Kadett received electronic injection ; the 1.8-liter engine now developed a maximum of 72 kW (98 PS), the two-liter in the renamed GSi sports model a maximum of 89 kW (121 PS). The Kadett Conversível ( Cabriolet ) also came into the program, the body shells of which went from Brazil to Bertone in Turin, where they were rebuilt and transported back to South America for final assembly.

From April 1993, the Ipanema was also available as a five-door and SL / E 2.0.

From 1994 the Kadett versions were called GL, GLS and GSi.

While the Brazilian Kadett models could initially only be distinguished from the European Kadett in details such as the fuel filler flap, this changed with the Kadett '96, which received a slight facelift . The bumpers were now painted in body color, it received a conventional radiator grille and strongly shaped air inlets in the front apron instead of the simple slot in the bumper. At the same time, the versions were now called GL, GLS, Sport and GSi. The maximum output of the two-liter engine in the GSi has been reduced to 81 kW (110 PS).

Combination version Ipanema

In September 1998 the Brazilian Kadett and Ipanema production ran out.
