The Opel Meriva is a minivan from the US automobile company General Motors , sold as the Vauxhall Meriva in the UK , the Chevrolet Meriva in South America and the Opel Meriva in the rest of the world.

It was based on the Opel Corsa C presented in autumn 2000 and was developed by General Motors do Brasil together with the Opel development center in Rüsselsheim . The European version Opel and Vauxhall Meriva was manufactured from spring 2003 to autumn 2009 at the Opel plant in Figueruelas near Saragossa in Spain , the Latin American version until 2012 at the São José dos Campos plant in Brazil .

The common rail engine ("CDTI") was jointly developed by GM Powertrain and Fiat . After the end of the joint venture, General Motors and Fiat will share the rights to this engine; production will continue to take place at Fiat due to long-term supply agreements. The 1.3 CDTI of the ECOTEC engine family from Opel was voted engine of the year in the class from 1.0 to 1.4 l in 2005.

In 2004 the Opel Meriva was ranked 16th on the list of new registrations in Germany according to KBA .

At Opel and Vauxhall, the Meriva A was replaced by the Meriva B in May 2010 , and in Latin America in 2012 by the Chevrolet Spin , which was developed in Brazil and is also produced in Bekasi , Indonesia .

Facelift

In January 2006 the Meriva received a facelift .

The crossbar on the radiator grille is no longer in the middle, but, as with all current Opel models, above the grille. A modified front apron with newly designed fog lights (round instead of rectangular), a modified design of the front headlights with clear glass and darkened taillights are further features.

In January 2007, the Meriva was given the designation "deficiency dwarf" by TÜV Germany. According to TÜV statistics, it was the one with the fewest defects in the two- and three-year-old vehicle category.
