The Chevrolet Corsica was a mid-size front-wheel drive sedan produced by the American car manufacturer Chevrolet from 1987 to 1996 .

Like the two-door Chevrolet Beretta coupe, the Corsica was based on the General Motors L platform .

Model history

In the summer of 1987, Chevrolet introduced the Beretta and Corsica models as successors to the Chevrolet Citation . The Corsica was a four-door notchback sedan with a slight wedge-shape silhouette, initially only available in a single version and powered by a two-liter four-cylinder or a 2.8-liter V6.

In 1989 the Corsica LTZ appeared as an additional model with a standard V6 engine and sports suspension.

In 1990, the output of the four-cylinder in the base model was increased from 91 to 96 hp, the V6 from 127 to 137 hp. In addition to the four-door sedan, a five-door hatchback variant with a large tailgate was added to the range, which, however, only sold moderately and was canceled in 1992.

In 1991 the previous 2.0-liter unit was replaced by a 2.2-liter in-line four-cylinder with an unchanged 96 hp, the 2.8-liter by a 3.1-liter V6. A driver airbag complemented the standard equipment. The Corsica LTZ was dropped without replacement. The base model has been renamed Corsica LT.

In 1992 the four-cylinder engine's output increased to 112 hp thanks to multi-point injection .

Only minimal changes were made until production was phased out in the summer of 1996. Chevrolet produced a total of around 1.64 million copies of the Corsica in a good ten years, including 42,000 five-door models.
