Volker Sprenger

Volker Sprenger (born November 26, 1947 in Hanover ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Sprenger began cycling in 1962 in the RRC Endspurt Mannheim club, and later started for RV Sossenheim in 1895 . As a youth rider, he was able to record around 100 victories (primarily in track cycling ), including German championship titles.

His particular strengths were the endurance disciplines and two-man team driving . In the latter discipline he won the title with Dietrich Thurau at the German championships in 1973 . Sprenger was also successful in six-day races for amateurs . He won in West Berlin and Frankfurt am Main in 1973 with Thurau as a partner. In his career he achieved around 500 victories and remained active in the leisure sector.

His brother Udo Sprenger was also a cyclist and later a functionary (Vice President) in the Association of German Cyclists (BDR).
