Manfred Donike (cyclist, 1960)

Manfred Donike (born June 13, 1960 in Erftstadt - Köttingen ; † February 23, 2003 in Kreuzau ) was a German amateur cyclist and later a cycling commissioner.

In 1984 Manfred Donike started at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles and finished 19th in the points race . He won 14 German championship titles, primarily in the two-man team race with Uwe Messerschmidt . Together with Messerschmidt, he won several six-day races for amateurs, such as the one in Dortmund between 1984 and 1989, as well as the renowned “ Silver Eagle of Cologne ” track race several times . Donike also took part in UCI track world championships and was twice military world champion.

After finishing his active cycling career, Donike first built up a cycling Bundesliga team in Cologne-Worringen and was the sporting director of the Rhineland-Palatinate Tour for a long time . Eventually he became commissioner of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and was a member of the jury at the Tour de France and at numerous world championships. At national level, he headed the Technical Commission for Racing at the Association of German Cyclists .

Manfred Donike died of heart disease at the age of 42. He was the son of Manfred Donike , who had also died of a heart attack. His brother Alexander Donike also works as a commissioner for the UCI and as an organizer, such as the technical director at Rund um Köln .
