Ernst Claußmeyer has organized the six-day race since 1994

The Dortmund six-day race was a traditional cycling event in Dortmund .

The race took place regularly from 1926 to 2008 in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle . Between 1935 and 1951 there was no six-day race in Dortmund. The Westfalenhalle served as a prisoner of war camp during the war and was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1944. After the reconstruction in 1952, the tradition of the Sixdays was continued and the races were resumed.

In Dortmund, a 200 meter long wooden oval was used. The track had a curve superelevation of 45 ° and a width of 6 meters. It was approved for all competitions including races behind heavy pacemaker motorcycles ( standing races ).

As with almost all other six-day races, there was also a pairing at the Dortmund six-day race that was announced to the audience in advance as "the local heroes". This team traditionally rode in black jerseys and the number nine. For example, they had this role

The record winner at the Dortmund Sixdays is the Belgian Patrick Sercu with eight wins, his partners were: Gregor Braun , Dietrich Thurau , Freddy Maertens , René Pijnen , Eddy Merckx , Peter Post , Rudi Altig , Alain Van Lancker .

The event was regularly attended by around 80,000 spectators. In addition to sport, an extensive show and entertainment program was offered in Westfalenhalle 2 during the six-day race.

Most recently, the event was organized by "Olympia Consulting GmbH" with Sven Claußmeyer, who had succeeded his father Ernie Claußmeyer , world champion in team pursuit from 1970, as the organizer.

After the withdrawal of the main sponsor, the Rewe Group , the six-day race was canceled in 2009 due to a funding gap of 300,000 euros. Since then, the six-day race, as well as the Great Christmas Prize of the Stayer , which was also organized by the Claussmeyer family, has not taken place. In the summer of 2011, the cycling track in the Westfalenhalle was demolished.
