Six day race in Munich

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Munich six-day race was a traditional track cycling event in Munich . The first six-day race in Munich took place in 1933. Shortly afterwards, all six-day races in Germany were banned by the National Socialists as unworthy spectacles . From 1949, six-day races were held again in the exhibition halls on Theresienhöhe in Munich . Initially very successful (approx. 100,000 visitors), the races were held for the last time in 1954. At last only 4,000 visitors led to the insolvency of the organizing Winterbahn GmbH . After an 18-year break, six-day races were held again in Munich from 1972, now in the Olympic Hall . The last six days in Munich for the time being took place from November 12th to 17th, 2009. The Olympiapark München GmbH gave their Sixdays license to the International Association Union Internationale des Velodrome back (UIV).

Velodrome

The free-standing cycling track in Munich was six meters wide, 200 meters long and had a hardwood base. The curve overhang was 49 degrees, which means that the drivers were standing with their bikes horizontal to the track at a speed of approx. 40–50 km / h.
