Giovanni Lombardi (cyclist)
Giovanni Lombardi (born June 26, 1969 in Pavia ) is a former Italian cyclist .
Lombardi became a professional with Team Lampre-Fondital in 1992 and has been with Bjarne Riis since 2005 . His specialty is the mass sprint. In this way, in his third year as a professional, he won two stages of the Tour of Murcia and the Tour de Suisse .
In 1997, Lombardi switched to Team Telekom, which was later renamed Team T-Mobile . This made him teammate of Jan Ullrich , who won the Tour de France that year . However, he was only signed to support Erik Zabel . In 2002 Lombardi returned to his homeland to drive in the service of Mario Cipollini . In 2006 he took part in the Tour de France for the fourth time . His best result was 105th place in 1995. After the 2006 season, he ended his career as an active cyclist. He is currently working as a manager for various professionals, including the Luxembourg tour runner-up Andy Schleck .
