Midi Libre

The Midi Libre is a French regional newspaper with editorial headquarters in Saint-Jean-de-Védas near Montpellier . The catchment area lies in the administrative region of Occitania with the departments along the Mediterranean Sea. The newspaper belongs to the Groupe La Dépêche in Toulouse .

The Midi Libre emerged from a "Journal Clandestin" of the French Resistance . The first official number of the Midi Libre appeared on August 27, 1944 on the occasion of the liberation (French for La Liberation ) from the German occupation in World War II . The name Midi Libre basically means Free South .

In the former Languedoc-Roussillon region , the Midi Libre has a quasi monopoly in the print press. The Midi Libre belongs to the Groupe Midi Libre, which in turn belongs to the Le Monde publishing group .

The Grand Prix Midi Libre was organized and financed by the Midi Libre.
