Roman Hermann

Roman Hermann (born March 27, 1953 in Schaan ) is a former Liechtenstein cyclist .

Cycling career

As a young amateur , he started at the UCI Track World Championships in 1970 . In the sprint he failed in the heats, in the 1000 meter time trial he was 19th. Roman Hermann was a professional from 1975 to 1996 and during this time he mainly drove six-day races . He started in a total of 182 six-day races, of which he won 15. In 1979 he was third in the European Championships in Derny , in 1981 he was second in the European Championships in two-man team driving (Madison) together with Horst Schütz and third in points competition at the UCI Track World Championships in Leicester in 1982 and second again in the European Championship in two-man team driving with his in 1984 Brother Sigmund . Together with Josef Kristen , he became European Champion in Madison in 1987. In 1988 he took third place in the European Championship in the Derny race and in the Madison with Hansruedi Märki . Hermann was nine times champion of Liechtenstein in the street race .

Professional

After the end of his active cycling career in 1996, Roman Hermann worked as a sports director, including at the six-day races in Stuttgart . Until August 2011, he ran a bicycle shop in his hometown of Schaan. From 1980 to 1984 he was President of the Schaan Cycling Club and from 1994 to 2004 President of the Sports Commission of the Liechtenstein Government.

Honors

In 1974, 1982 and 1987 Hermann was voted Liechtenstein Sportsman of the Year . In 1984 he received this award a third time, in the team competition together with his brother. In 2005 Roman Hermann was awarded the « Golden Laurel Leaf » of the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Familiar

Roman is the brother of Sigmund Hermann and Peter Hermann , both of whom were also active as cyclists.
