Emile Severeyns

Emile Severeyns (born August 28, 1931 in Schoten ; † November 30, 1979 in Antwerp ) was a Belgian cyclist .

In 1941, Emile Severeyns became the Belgian junior champion in road racing, and the following year Belgian junior champion in the sprint on the track .

Severeyns was a professional cyclist from 1953 to 1971 . Although he continued to drive road races - he won the Briek Schotte GP in 1957 - he was mainly active on the track . He started in a total of 121 six-day races, of which he won 21. His standard partner was Rik Van Steenbergen , with whom he formed a team 62 times and won 18 times. Severeyns and Van Steenbergen have also been European champions four times in two-man team driving and Belgian champions once. After Van Steenbergen's retirement from cycling, Severeyns started mainly in six-day races in Canada . In 1979 he suddenly died of a heart attack.
