Hartmut Scholz

Hartmut Scholz (born August 28, 1941 in Berlin ; † 2001 there ) was a German track cyclist .

Athletic career

Hartmut Scholz, who started for SC Einheit Berlin and later TSC Berlin , was a member of the GDR national team in 1964 and 1965 . He took his first steps in cycling in the BSG Lok Lichtenberg (Berlin). He was one of the crowd's favorites on the winter track in the Werner-Seelenbinder-Halle , especially in the two-man team races , which he mostly competed with Bernd Barleben . He won the traditional 1001 lap race, popular with the public, twice, in 1962 with Helmut Hochschild and in 1964 with Manfred Klieme and Dieter Zuchold . At the GDR championships in the single pursuit , he came second (1962) and third (1963). At Easter 1965 he stayed in England after the “Good Friday Meeting” at the Velodrome in Herne Hill and then went to West Berlin . There he joined the NRVg Luisenstadt .

1965 Scholz was German champion in two-crew driving the amateurs , along with Klaus Schützeberg . In the single pursuit he won the bronze medal at this championship and helped the street foursome of his club to the silver medal. Then he became a professional and drove u. a. for the Ruberg team under the sporting director Wolfgang Gronen . In the same year he finished sixth in the Berlin six-day race alongside the Danish veteran Palle Lykke . He took part in the Berlin six-day race four times. In 1966 he took part as a professional in Frankfurt in the track world championships in the single pursuit over 5000 meters, but only finished in a lower position and was second in the German championship in the standing race . When the Ruberg team was dissolved in 1967, he ended his professional career and allowed himself to be reamateurised .

In 2001 Scholz died of leukemia .

His son Marcel was also active as a cyclist for the NRVg Luisenstadt.
