Hans Hindelang

Hans Hindelang (born October 12, 1951 in Immenstadt ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Hindelang began cycling in the RSV Sonthofen club . He later started for the RSG Augsburg . He won his first medal at a German Championship in 1973, he called the victory of Hans Michalsky in the 1000 meter time trial was third. In 1976 he was runner-up, also behind Michalsky. On the road , too , he was runner-up among the amateurs once , in 1977 he finished second behind Jürgen Kraft . He won further medals at German championships in two-man team driving , team pursuit and standing races . In 1977 he switched to professional drivers and remained active there until 1991. He had his first professional contract with the Willora cycling team in Switzerland .

In 1983 he was German champion in the criterion among professionals before Horst Schütz . He won some criteria and competed in more than 40 six-day races by 1986 . Hindelang often drove Keirin races in Japan and, according to his own statement, was able to earn as much money there in three months "as a first-class driver gets in a six-day season". He took part in the UCI Road World Championships six times , but was always eliminated from the races. In 1978 he won a stage of the Vuelta a Aragon . He contested his only Grand Tour with the Giro d'Italia in 1980 and was able to finish this tour in 85th place overall. He achieved seventh place in the individual time trial of the 5th stage.

In 1991 he ended his career. For a time he worked as a professional coordinator in the Association of German Cyclists (BDR).
