Supreme Court of Florida
The Supreme Court of Florida is the Supreme Court of the US state Florida . It is composed of seven judges.
Basics
The Florida Supreme Court is the highest and therefore the final instance in the Florida state courts. It is located in Tallahassee and has been in existence since 1845.
Judge
Five members are selected from five districts across the state to promote the geographic regions on an equal footing. Two judges are selected for the entire state.
The judges are appointed by the Florida governor for terms no longer than six years. Immediately after appointment, the initial term of office is three years or less, as judges will have to be on the ballot in the next elections that take place more than a year after their appointment. After that, they have a six-year term and remain in office if retained in the general election towards the end of each term. Citizens vote on whether they want to keep every judge in office or not.
The chief judges are elected by the members of the court for two years ending in every even year.
