Walter Schürmann (cyclist)

Walter Schürmann (born November 20, 1929 in Dortmund ) is a former German racing cyclist .

Walter Schürmann raced as a professional from the early 1950s to the mid-1950s. In 1949 he became German champion in the amateur street race . With 13 wins he was by far the most successful amateur in road races in Germany during the 1949 season. Schürmann started for the Sturm Hombruch-Dortmund club . In 1950 he joined the pros and rode for the Bismarck cycling team for four years . In 1952 he became German champion in two-man team driving with Fritz Siefert . In 1955 he was national runner-up in this discipline with Valentin Petry and in 1956 third with Heinz Müller .

Schürmann started the Tour of Germany five times between 1950 and 1955 , but was unable to place himself. He also drove 20 six-day races and was able to achieve third place three times with Otto Petry .
