Karl Loy (born March 14, 1934 in Fürth ) is a former German cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

In 1950 he started cycling in his hometown in the club RC Kleeblatt Fürth . During his training as a painter he found a generous sponsor and supporter in his employer Ernst Martin, who was also the chairman of the association. He was Bavarian champion already in the A-youth. Loy was a cyclist who had a lot of strength and got along well in the mountains, but who was weak in the final sprint. In the final of the German championship in 1954 , he was clearly inferior to Paul Maue in the final sprint when both of them reached the goal alone. He had his greatest success in 1955 in Giessen , when he won the German championship title in the amateur road race ahead of Karl-Heinz Meyer after 234 kilometers . He also competed in the track cycling championships and finished second in the single pursuit behind Heinz Beeckers without any special training . Despite good offers from larger clubs, he stayed in Fürth. For the German national team he was in action several times. So he drove the Tour of Austria in 1953, which he finished in 11th place. Also in 1953 he was at the start of the GDR tour and won the 1st stage there.
