Adolf Läuppi

Adolf "Piccolo" Läuppi (born March 3, 1906 in Gränichen , † July 25, 1974 in Zurich ) was a Swiss cyclist .

Athletic career

Adolf Läuppi came from Gränichen, the place where the legendary Swiss cyclist Suter also came from. At a young age, Läuppi joined them in training. In 1924 he was third in the amateur class of the Zurich championship . In 1926 he joined the professionals .

On the cycling track at the Buffalo Stadium in Paris , Läuppi came into contact with standing sport and shifted his focus to it. From 1928 to 1930 Läuppi was Swiss champion in the standing race three times in a row . By 1935 he was also three times second and twice third. At the UCI track world championships in 1928 he finished fourth and in 1930 fifth.

Trivia

Adolf Läuppi was very petite. The Swiss cycling journalist Max Burgi used to cheer him on with “allez, Piccolo”, which is why he was nicknamed “Piccolo”.
