Heberle started cycling in 1959. In 1962 he qualified for the A-class of the amateurs in Switzerland by winning the race around the Rigi .
His most significant success was winning the Swiss championship in the amateur sprint in 1965.
In 1964 and 1965 he was a participant in the UCI track world championships. At the end of 1965 he obtained an independent license so that he could also take part in professional driver races. In 1967 he became a professional in the Tigra cycling team , in which the former world champion Jean Jourden also rode.
