Matthé Pronk (born July 1, 1974 in Warmenhuizen ) is a Dutch cyclist .

Cycling career

Matthé Pronk became a professional in 1999 with the Dutch cycling team Rabobank . He drove there until 2002. When his contract was not extended, he switched to the smaller team Bankgiroloterij and was immediately successful there. He won the Nokere Koerse and the Druivenkoers . In 2003 he won the Noord-Nederland Tour . The following year he moved to the Belgian professional Continental Team MrBookmaker.com , which was later renamed Unibet.com and retired from cycling at the end of 2007. Pronk started for the successor team Cycle Collstrop in 2008 before moving to the Vacansoleil team in 2009 .

Together with the pacemaker Joop Zijlaard , Pronk set a new hourly world record over 66.017 kilometers on November 18, 2004 in Alkmaar . In April 2010 Pronk retired from professional cycling in order to devote more time to his studies and his family.

Shortly thereafter, Pronk resigned. In December 2010 he and pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein took second place in the Dutch standing championship behind Patrick Kos with Willem Fack . In January 2012, Matté Pronk was the Dutch champion of the stayers 2011/2012 in Alkmaar with pacemaker Peter Bäuerlein. The other places went to Jos Pronk with Sam Mooj and European Champion Patrick Kos with Willem Fack. In December 2012 they both defended this title in front of Patrick Kos with pacemaker Willem Fack and Raymond Rol with Christian Dippel .

Private

Matthé Pronk comes from a cycling family. His father, Mattheus , the late two-time world champion of amateur standers , and his brother Jos are also cyclists. Former T-Mobile driver Bas Giling is his nephew.
