history
Since 1964 there has been a semi-open concrete cycle track in Alkmaar - only the track and grandstands were covered. In 2003 this runway was renovated by providing the concrete runway with a wooden surface and completely roofing it over. Since then it has been one of three indoor cycling tracks in the Netherlands, alongside the Velodrome Amsterdam and the Omnisport Apeldoorn . The track itself is 250 meters long, 6.5 meters wide and has a curve superelevation of 42 degrees. There is space for around 1750 spectators.
In Sportpaleis Alkmaar multiple national rail Championships took place in the European Championships and pacemaker race . Together with the Derny - pacemaker Joop Zijlaard turned cyclist Matthé Pronk on 18 November 2004 in Alkmaar a new hour world record in the 66.017 km on. The Dutch national track team uses the track for training and sighting races .
