Montagne Bourbonnaise
The Montagne Bourbonnaise is a natural area in France in the south-eastern part of the Allier department . Its name documents its affiliation to the historical Bourbonnais province .

The Montagne Bourbonnaise is part of the French Massif Central . The low mountain range is bordered to the east by the Côte Roannaise , to the south by the Monts du Forez , to the west by the Limagne Bourbonnaise and to the north by the Sologne Bourbonnaise .

The Montagne Bourbonnaise forms a mountain region with the Puy de Montoncel (1287 m) as the highest peak. Some geographers see the area as part of the Monts de Madeleine. However, both geographic regions are clearly separated by the Besbre valley.

Municipalities
The municipalities in the region have come together to form a network called Communauté de communes de la Montagne Bourbonnaise . This was merged into Vichy Communauté with effect from January 1, 2017 .
