Around the Sachsenring

All around the Sachsenring (also Sachsenringradrennen or West Saxony classic ) is a one-day race in road cycling .

The competition was first held in 1956 as the Grand Prix of Sports Echo at the Sachsenring . The amateur world elite regularly took part in the races of the following years . On the course have been world championships in 1960 discharged and ten DDR road championships and 1992 and 1994 respectively, the German road championship of professionals as part of the Three-Nations Cup Germany / Switzerland / Luxembourg discharged. Since the introduction of the UCI Europe Tour in 2005 up to and including 2007, it was part of this racing series and classified in category 1.2. It was also integrated into the U23 rating of the 2006 to 2009 International German Championships . In 2019, the Association of German Cyclists not only acted as the organizer, but also as the host of the German championship after there had been problems finding a venue for 2019. The former cyclist and race organizer Dietmar Lohr from Chemnitz was responsible on site. Sachsenring Event GmbH agreed to provide the Sachsenring with the start / finish area for the two races for women and men. The city of Hohenstein-Ernstthal granted the route approval for a 12.9 kilometer lap, 3.5 kilometers of which was on the racetrack. One lap was 183 meters in altitude. The race turned out to be a "bizarre heat battle": it was almost 40 degrees. After just 40 kilometers, 70 drivers were eliminated, 25 kilometers later another 40. Of 190 drivers who started, only 15 ultimately reached the finish. The top three, Maximilian Schachmann , Marcus Burghardt and Andreas Schillinger , all from the Bora-hansgrohe team , mastered the race in the style of a team time trial .

The race was sometimes held several times a year.
