Bicycle manufacture
Under a Fahrradmanufaktur means a plant in which bicycles or some components such as the frame , hubs , saddles and saddle racks or wheels in single or small batch production to be built. Manufacture means that the bicycles are largely assembled by hand, mainly in island or workshop production . The individual components are usually bought in, but you can also manufacture some or all of them yourself.
In contrast to the industrially manufactured mass products, bicycles, at least essential components of which have been assembled by hand, allow an exact adjustment to the intended use, to the individual needs and body dimensions of the rider and the use of special materials that are less suitable for industrial production (e. B. Gold) or production process. The resulting higher price is justified by the special features and quality of the bike.
Hand-assembled bicycles can be found in all areas of use. Classic bike models for racing are mainly made by hand with a view to the lowest possible weight, other models such as recumbent bikes or tandem bikes due to the small number of pieces.
Well-known and successful bicycle manufacturers are Rickert (Dortmund) in Germany , De Rosa in Italy and Hublot (Nyon) in Switzerland .
