Hugo Rickert (born March 20, 1928 in Fröndenberg ; † October 20, 2011 there ) was a cyclist and frame builder from Dortmund .

Life

Born in Fröndenberg in 1928, Rickert completed a commercial apprenticeship with "Karl Hoesch" from 1942 to 1945 . When he couldn't find a job in this area, he did another apprenticeship as a mechanic at Brose, the leading frame construction company in Dortmund . In his spare time he drove youth races at RV Sturmvogel 25 Dortmund .

In 1951 Rickert set up his own workshop to manufacture frames for racing bikes . In his workshop in Dortmund - Eving , frames were built by hand in the customary frame sizes as well as individually modified custom-made products. Rickert frames were all steel frames that were soldered and lugged. Reynolds 531 pipes were typically used as the pipe material .

He was supported in this by his wife Doris, who also ran the affiliated shop, in which the components and other accessories such as cycling clothing and the like were sold, and her father, who carried out simple preparatory work such as the pre-lacing of wheels.

Numerous titles have been won on frames and bikes from Rickert. Thus Udo Hempel 1970 world champion and 1972 Olympic gold medalist in the team pursuit on Rickert frame. Other prominent customers were Dieter Gieseler , who won silver in the time trial at the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 on a Rickert bike , and Karl-Heinz Marsell , who became world champion in 1961 . In 2002 Rickert gave up his trade for health reasons and moved to his hometown Fröndenberg / Ruhr . Frames made by him are coveted collector's items.

Hugo Rickert died on October 20, 2011 at the age of 83 in his home town of Fröndenberg- Frömern .
