Diana Žiliūtė (born May 28, 1976 in Rietavas , Lithuanian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Lithuanian cyclist and world champion in road racing (1998).

Career

Diana Žiliūtė attracted international attention in 1994 when she became the junior road world champion. She then dominated women's road cycling until the late 1990s. In 1998 she won the women's road world cup and was also world champion .

In 1999 Diana Žiliūtė was the winner of the Grande Boucle Féminine . She received a warning because of high caffeine levels. In 2000 she was able to win the World Cup again; she also won a bronze medal in road racing at the Olympic Games in Sydney. In the years that followed, Žiliūtė won numerous road races and round trip stages. Most recently she was fifth in the 2009 World Championship in Mendrisio and won the Giro della Toscana .

From 1999 to 2009 Diana Žiliūtė rode continuously in the Italian cycling team Acca Due O , which at times rode with a Lithuanian license and changed names several times.

In November 2009, the then 33-year-old declared her active career over.

Awards

  • In 2004 Diana Žiliūtė was awarded the Gediminas State Order of Lithuania.
