Mandy Jones

Amanda Ellen "Mandy" Jones is a former British cyclist .

Mandy Jones began cycling at the West Pennine Road Club in Rochdale (north of Manchester ). In 1974 she competed in her first race and five years later she won her first national junior championship.

In 1980, at the age of 18, Mandy Jones finished third at the Road World Championships in Sallanches, France, behind world champion Beth Heiden . In 1982 she became the first British woman in 15 years to win the world title at the Road World Championships in Goodwood, Germany . At the British Track Championships in the same year she proved her versatility, becoming champion in the 3000 meter single pursuit and in the 50 mile time trial , an English “specialty”. In 1981 and 1983 she won the title of British Road Champion.

In 2009, Mandy Jones was one of the first 50 honored in the " British Cycling Hall of Fame ". It is also represented in the British "Golden Book of Cycling".

Mandy Jones now runs a bicycle shop in Oldham with her husband Nigel Bishop .
