history

Neusiedler paper factory

The first factory was built in 1793 in Klein-Neusiedl an der Fischa, Lower Austria (east of Vienna), by the wholesaler Ignaz Theodor Pachner Edler von Eggenstorf († 1814) from Leonfelden.

from there the former company name "Neusiedler" comes from. The then Emperor Franz II granted the approval of a “manufacture for the creation of finer papers”. The company delivered paper to the kk central bank . In 1837 the factory was sold to the Viennese wholesaler Georg Borckenstein , who converted the company into the kk privileged stock corporation of the Kleinneusiedl paper factory and was now considered the most comprehensive machine paper factory in Europe.

The factory later came into the possession of Vinzenz von Miller zu Aichholz , who brought Ludwig Tennenbaum to Neusiedler AG for paper manufacturing in 1883. At that time the factories in Klein-Neusiedl and Petersdorf in Transylvania ( Petreşti ) belonged to this AG . In 1908 the paper mills Schlöglmühl and Stuppach (municipality of Gloggnitz) as well as the local soda cellulose factory came into the possession of Neusiedler AG; Then in 1911 the pulp mill Josefihütte near Marienbad in western Bohemia and in 1912 the fine paper mill in Pilsen (Plzeň). The share capital at that time was a total of 9 million kroner, and was exported to Europe, Turkey and South America. A separate trading company was created for Hungary; branches in Prague, Budapest, Lviv and Agram (Zagreb) already existed.

Paper mills in Kematen and Theresienthal

In 1868 the mill at Ulmerfeld near Amstetten (Lower Austria) was converted into a wood grinding shop by Anton Pokorny . In the following year, 1869, Anton Pokorny and Josef Hiebl built the Theresienthal paper mill there. In 1870 they both bought the mill in Kematen and set up an industrial company.

In 1872 Pokorny and Hiebl sold both plants to the cellulose and paper factory owned by Carl Ellissen and Paul Roeder.

In 1886 a second paper machine was positioned in Kematen an der Ybbs and two years later construction of the first pulp mill in Kematen began, which received a steam engine in 1894 .

In 1889 the mill in Hausmening was founded into its own factory hospital.

After the merger

During the First World War, the shares in the Theresienthal paper factory were transferred from Ellissen, Roeder & Co. AG to Neusiedler AG (with factories in Hausmening, and the paper and cellulose factory in Hilm-Kematen).

In 1920 the Schütt wood cardboard factory near Waidhofen an der Ybbs and the Hirschwanger wood grinding and wood pulp factory Schoeller & Co. were purchased. The factories in Pilsen, Josefihütte and Rattimau , which were located in Czechoslovakia after the collapse of the monarchy , became the Prague Neusiedler Vereinigte Papier-, Zellulose- und Holzstoff-Fabriken AG, the paper mill in Romania. Petersdorf converted into the Fabrica de Hârtie Petrifalau Societate Anonimă Română .

1945 then by the Lauda / Turnauer Investgruppe. A new pulp mill in Kematen was put into operation in 1957, before paper machine 5 (PM5) was started for the first time in 1971. The building for the machine is 285 m long. The new paper machine 4 (PM4) also started three years later. In 1981 the first successful steps in idea management were made with 31 implemented ideas with cost savings of EUR 1.1 million. Paper machine 6 (PM6) went into operation the following year.

In 2000, the company Neusiedler AG was 100 percent taken over by Mondi , in 2007 the IPO of Mondi took place, on the occasion of a restructuring "Mondi Business Paper" was renamed Mondi UFP (Uncoated Fine Paper). In 2008 the company with the locations Hausmening and Kematen was renamed Mondi Neusiedler . A year later, the company set a world record on the 12-up, small-format press, with 636.8 tons of A4 paper processed within 24 hours.

The Hausmening site has 449 employees. Two paper machines (PM5 + PM6) produce white office communication paper. Hausmening has the following production data:

  • PM5 : Wood-free, white papers with 60 to 300 g / m², for office communication in A and A + as well as in the specialty segment such as B. Recycling NAUTILUS or Color Copy generated. Another special feature of the PM5 is the production of biotope paper, which is made from TCF (totally chlorine-free) cellulose, without optical brighteners, in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • PM6 : The PM6 produces papers with 50 to 120 g / m². The main grades are 80 g / m² wood-free, white papers for office communication in the A segment. On this machine, white paper is not produced from a single layer of raw material as is customary on conventional machines, but from three layers using the TRIOTEC technology developed by Neusiedler. This was developed in order to guarantee the use of recycled fibers and wood pulp in papers that must meet the highest quality requirements. In the two outer layers, the highest quality primary fibers are usually used to achieve optimum quality, while in the inner layer the more environmentally friendly recycled fibers (from waste paper) or wood pulp (CTMP).

Location Kematen / Ybbs

The Kematen site has the two smaller paper machines from Mondi Neusiedler GmbH. The PM3 and PM4 produce colored office communication paper. Ybbstaler Zellstoff GmbH is also located in Kematen and produces part of the pulp for the paper mill. A total of 203 employees work in Kematen. Kematen has the following production data:

  • PM3 : The paper machine 3 is a pure specialty machine for office communication and offset printing papers in the range of 70 to 400 g / m² with a nominal width of 2160 mm. In addition to specialties such as Molette paper, natural white, lightened and colored paper is produced. Due to its high flexibility, the machine is suitable for tests in new technologies and new products. The machine type corresponds to a Fourdrinier machine with a hybrid former with optimized dewatering to minimize two-sidedness. Two conventional laying presses as well as an offset press, a pre-dryer section (16 cylinders), size press and after-dryer section (6 cylinders) with machine calender and reel define the further course of the machine. The possible speed range of the PM3 is between 80 and 320 m / min.
  • PM4 : Natural white, lightened and colored paper from 60 to 250 g / m² for office communication and offset printing is also produced on the PM4. However, this machine is much faster with speeds of 250 m / min to 850 m / min and with a max. Width of 2670 mm more efficient. The same concept as for PM3 with a hybrid former only applies to the wire section. The press section differs significantly through a two-nip suction press roll in combination with a NIPCO Flex press. A fourth press and then an offset press complete this machine section. Another 26 cylinders in the pre-dryer section, a speed coater and an after-dryer section with 12 cylinders form the hot evaporation zone. A machine smoothing unit forms the end with the reel-up.
