Vratimov (German Rattimau ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located seven kilometers south of the city center on the outskirts of Ostrava and belongs to the Okres Ostrava-město .
geography
Vratimov is located on the right bank of the Ostravice in the Ostrava basin . To the north of the city lies the Mittal Steel Ostrava as area. In the south of the city, two castle stables on the Ostravice testify to the Silesian-Moravian border along the river.
Neighboring towns are Bartovice in the northeast, Horní Datyně and Václavovice in the east, Řepiště and Paskov in the south, Hrabová in the west, and Hrabůvka and Kunčice nad Ostravicí in the northwest.
history
According to one theory, Vratimov was founded in the 2nd half of the 13th century during the settlement of the Teschener Land by Jan von Baruth, who came from an old Lusatian noble family. Since the division of the estate in 1281, Vratimov was part of the Duchy of Teschen and belonged to the Polish Ostrau dominion . The first written mention as Wrothimow took place around 1305 in Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis , in which the territory from which the tithe was calculated had not yet been determined, which indicated the earlier phase of the foundation. The place was then on the border between Poland and Silesia and Moravia (in the border treaty from 1297 " (...) super metis et terminie apud Ostraviam in minibus buno rum ducatus nostri et episcopatus Olomucensis pro eo, quod fluvius idem qui de beret metas Polonie et Moravie distingire ).
Industrialization began at the end of the 19th century, and a cellulose factory was built in the 1880s. On October 16, 1923, a serious train accident occurred between Vratimov and Paskov when two opposing trains collided.
In 1951, just north of the city in Kunčice nad Ostravicí, Nová huť was established , which, along with Eisenhüttenstadt and Nowa Huta near Krakow, became one of the most important ironworks combines in the Eastern Bloc and now operates as ArcelorMittal Ostrava as. Until January 1, 2007 Vratimov belonged to the Okres Frýdek-Místek .
