Šenov (German Schönhof; Polish Szonów ) is a city in the Czech Republic . It is located on the eastern city limits of Ostrava and belongs to the Okres Ostrava-město .
geography
Šenov is located in Moravian Silesia in the Ostrava Pan and belongs to the Ostrava Metropolitan Region . The city lies on the right bank of the Lučina opposite the confluence of the Venclůvka . Neighboring towns are in the west of the Ostrau district of Bartovice, in the north Petřvald , in the east Šumbark and Havířov and in the south Skrbeň, Šimška and Horní Datyně.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document about 1305 in the Liber fundationis episcopatus Vratislaviensis ( Tithe Register of the Diocese of Breslau ) as item in Sonow . The village was still in the earlier phase of foundation, so the territory of which the tithe was calculated was inexpressible.
Politically, the village originally belonged to the Duchy of Opole-Ratibor (Teschener Kastellanei ) during the period of Polish particularism . The duchy was divided in 1281 after the death of Wladislaus I von Opole . From 1290 the village belonged to the Duchy of Teschen . Since 1327 consisted fiefdom of the Kingdom of Bohemia and since 1526 it belonged with this for the Habsburg monarchy .
The parish of Schonwald in the Teschen deanery was mentioned in the Peterspfennig register of 1447.
In 1679, the episcopal visitation of Wroclaw established that the Moravian language ( concio Moravica , see also Lachish language ) was spoken in the parish, while in 1847 the Polish language was spoken .
In the 14th and 15th centuries, the place was owned by the local noble family Schaschkow von Schönhof. In 1531 the Sedlnitzky von Choltitz acquired Schönhof. The small Renaissance castle was built at this time. In 1549 Jaroslav Skrbenský bought the manor from Hříště.
In 1764 the wooden church of St. Nicholas was demolished and the baroque Church of the Lord's Providence was built in its place. In 1829 Philipp Ludwig de Saint-Genois bought Schönhof and in 1893 Heinrich Graf Larisch-Mönnisch bought the property. He did not care at all about the castle, which was so dilapidated in 1927 that it was demolished. Only the palace library was brought to Vienna , the furniture was disposed of.
In 1893 the chapel of the Evangelical Augsburg congregation was built and in 1931 the Bohemian congregation of brothers built their church.
In 1993 the village received the right to keep a municipal coat of arms and since October 5, 1998 Šenov has city rights. Until January 1, 2007, the city was part of the Okres Ostrava-město .
