Monica Valvik-Valen

Grethe Monica Eikild Valvik-Valen , b. Valen , (born September 15, 1970 in Porsgrunn ) is a former Norwegian cyclist and road world champion .

In 1987, Monica Valvik-Valen became Norwegian road champion for the first time, namely in the juniors. Five years later, in 1992, she won two national championship titles in one year, in road racing and in the individual time trial . In the same year she also won the Swedish bike race Tygrikescupen ; she was able to repeat these three successes the following year. In total, she was Norwegian champion eleven times. She also took part in two Olympic Games; in the road race at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​she finished fifth. Her specialty was sightseeing; so she won the Tour de Bretagne in 2000 .

In 1994 Monica Valvik-Valen won the World Championship title on the road in Agrigento, Italy . She was then honored with the Morgenbladet Foundation Gold Medal in her home country .

She was married to the Norwegian discus thrower Svein Inge Valvik . Her sister is the cyclist Anita Valen de Vries ; the cyclist Gerrit de Vries is her brother-in-law.
