Alice Barnes (born July 17, 1995 in Towcester ) is a British cyclist who competes in races on mountain bikes and on the road .
Athletic career
In 2013 Alice Barnes became British Junior Champion in Mountain Bike Cross Country (XC). That same year she was in the Olympic Academy Program of British Cycling added. In 2014 she started for England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and finished fifth in the mountain bike XC. In 2015 she finished second at the British road championship behind the two-time world champion Lizzie Armitstead and thus became U23 champion, in 2016 she was able to repeat this victory.
In 2016 Barnes got a contract with the Drops Cycling Team and finally shifted her focus to road cycling. The following year she was third in the road race at the U23 European Championships and won a stage of the BeNe Ladies Tour . In 2018 she decided one stage of the Thuringia Tour for herself. In September 2018 she became world champion in the team time trial as a member of the Canyon SRAM Racing team , together with her sister Hannah , Elena Cecchini , Trixi Worrack , Lisa Klein and Alena Amjaljussik . The following year she won both British street titles.
Others
Alice Barnes is the younger sister of racing driver Hannah Barnes. In 2018 the two sisters rode together in the Canyon SRAM Racing team . The year before, Hannah Barnes had said in an interview that she would not like to drive on the same team with Alice: If you had a fall, your sister would worry even more than a teammate would anyway.
