Leah Kirchmann (born June 30, 1990 in Winnipeg ) is a Canadian cyclist.
Cycling career
Leah Kirchmann started skiing at the age of five and mountain bike races at the age of 13 . In the following years she practiced both sports, skiing in winter and cycling in summer. In 2008 she qualified for both the junior road world championships and the mountain bike world championships. She then decided to focus on road cycling.
In 2011 Kirchmann received her first contract with Colavita Forno D'Asolo , the following year she moved to Team Optum , where she stayed until she was signed by Liv-Plantur in 2015 . In 2012 she finished second in the road race of the Pan American Championships; In 2014 she became Canadian champion in road racing and in the individual time trial . She also came third at La Course by Le Tour de France .
In 2015 Kirchmann won the 2nd and 3rd stage of the California Tour , the points classification and came second in the overall classification. For the 2016 season she moved to the Dutch team Liv-Plantur . She won the prologue of the Giro d'Italia Femminile and also took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio . She finished the season second in the UCI Women's WorldTour Ranking.
In 2017 she won the Canadian one-day race Grand Prix Cycliste de Gatineau . In September Kirchmann became world champion in the team time trial with the Sunweb team . In 2018, she came second in the first ever Brabant Arrow women's race . Kirchmann was also able to become Canadian individual time trial champion once again and took 5th place in the road race. At the Giro d'Italia Femminile she won the team time trial and took over the pink jersey for two stages , she also won bronze in the team time trial at the world championships, in the individual time trial Kirchmann was fourth and missed bronze by two seconds.
Professional and private
2013 closed Leah Kirchmann their studies of public health nutrition at the Quest University in Squamish from; later she would like to work in this field. She works as an ambassador for the organization Fast and Female , which aims to introduce young women to sport.
