Evelyn Stevens (born May 9, 1983 in Claremont ) is a former American cyclist . She was four times world champion in the team time trial .

Athletic career

Evelyn Stevens completed a bachelor's degree in political science and gender studies . From 2005 to 2007 she worked as an invest banker at Lehman Brothers in New York , until 2009 for an investment fund. It wasn't until 2007 that she got in touch with cycling when she took part in hobby races in Central Park and won several. In 2009 she became US runner-up in the individual time trial . In 2010 she received her first contract as a professional cyclist.

In 2010 and 2011 Stevens won the national title in the individual time trial. 2012 was her most successful year to date, in which she became world champion in team time trial and vice-world champion in individual time trial for the first time, as well as winning the important races Route de France Féminine , Tour of New Zealand for women , La Flèche Wallonne and Gracia Orlová . In both 2013 and 2014 she won the world title in the team time trial again.

Evelyn Stevens finished 24th in the road race at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

On February 27, 2016 Evelyn Stevens improved the hour record on the 7-Eleven Velodrome Track in Colorado Springs to 46.882 kilometers. After participating in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she finished twelfth in the road race and tenth in the individual time trial, she announced that she would end her cycling career at the end of the 2016 season to return to her job as an investment banker. Before she retired, she won her fourth team time trial world title at the 2016 UCI Road World Championships in Doha .
