Tour of Norway

The Tour of Norway (dt. Norway Tour ) is the Norwegian national tour in road cycling .

history

In the 1980s and 1990s, a tour of Norway was held several times, most recently for women in 1990 and for men in 1992. Francesco Moser , Olaf Ludwig and Henk Lubberding were among the men's winners at the time . Among the women who won was Maria Canins

After 1992, the men's cycling race was held for the first time in 2011 over five sections and classified in the lowest category 2.2 of the UCI Europe Tour . As a stage race, it replaced the Ringerike Grand Prix , which was shortened to a one-day race . In the following years the race was upgraded several times: In 2012 the tour received the UCI category 2.1 and from 2014 the hors category .

In 2014, after a 24-year break, the Ladies Tour of Norway was held again . The race lasted two stages and was UCI category 2.1. In 2019, in addition to the stage race, a team time trial for women was held under the name Ladies Tour of Norway -TTT .

Before 2019, the race was taken over by the Tour de Fjords AS organization , which organized the Tour des Fjords men's stage race and Hammer Stavanger . The tour of the fjord was combined with the tour of Norway and together with Hammer Stavanger formed a nine-day cycling event.

The staging of the men's race was canceled in 2020 due to financial problems. After Hammer Stavanger was canceled, financial resources became available with the help of which the Tour of Norway can be staged.
