Pieter Weening (born April 5, 1981 in Harkema , Friesland province ) is a Dutch cyclist .

Athletic career

Pieter Weening has been part of the elite since 2004 and was part of the Rabobank team until 2011 . He then moved to the Australian team Orica GreenEdge . During these years he started at Grand Tours 15 times . The greatest success of his career came during the Tour de France 2005 when he won the 8th stage in the photo finish against Andreas Klöden . In 2012 he moved to the Australian team GreenEdge . By 2017 he had made 15 major tours, his best overall ranking was at the 2010 Giro d'Italia when he finished 24th.

When Weening switched from the Australian team Orica GreenEdge to the domestic team Roompot in 2016, he concentrated on smaller tours. In 2016 he won the Tour of Norway and a stage of the Tour de Suisse . The following year, he won a stage of the Tour of Norway , finished third in the overall standings and won the mountain ratings of the Tour de Yorkshire 2017 and the Tour of Austria 2017 .
