Dag Erik Pedersen (born June 6, 1959 in Skien ) is a former Norwegian cyclist and now a popular TV journalist .

Athletic career

1977 Dag Erik Pedersen was two-time Norwegian junior champion, in the individual and team time trial . The following year he won the Scandinavian junior team time trial championship, together with Geir Digerud , Morten Sæther and Jostein Wilmann . In 1979 he was second in the overall ranking of the Berlin stage trip and in 1980 the Rhineland-Palatinate tour . In 1981 he won the Guillaume Tell Grand Prix . That same year, he tested positive for ephedrine in the Milk Race and was banned for a month. He himself later explains this by taking a cold preparation.

In 1982 Dag Erik Pedersen turned professional . As such, he won the Giro del Lazio in 1982 and the Tour of Scandinavia in 1983 . He won the Tour of Norway three times - in 1984, 1989 and 1991 . At the Giro d'Italia , he won three stages. In 1992, in his last year as a cyclist, he became Norwegian champion in road racing and team time trial, together with Stig Kristiansen and Trond Kristian Karlsen . Pedersen started several times both as an amateur and as a professional driver in the UCI Road World Championships for the Norwegian national team.

He received the Kongepokal (King's Cup), which is awarded for the best athletic performance at Norwegian championships, in 1992.

Career as a moderator and journalist

Two years after finishing his cycling career, Pedersen began working as a journalist, initially for a commercial channel. After two more years he switched to the state broadcasting company NRK . In 1999 he became a newscast host and was very popular in his home country. He later made a series of portraits for television of celebrities such as Paul McCartney , Andrea Bocelli , Bob Dylan and the Norwegian Royal Couple. In 2005 he produced the film Deadline Torp , the biggest television hit in Norway to date. In 2002, 2004 and 2005 he was Norway's Newsman of the Year.
