Kurt Asle Arvesen (born February 9, 1975 in Molde ) is a former Norwegian cyclist , two-time Olympian (2000, 2004), later a cycling trainer and sport director .
Career
Kurt Asle Arvesen won the U23 road race title at the 1997 road world championships and in 1999 received his first regular contract with an international cycling team , Team Asics .
One of the greatest successes of his career in the elite sector was the victory at the 11th stage of the Tour de France 2008 , in which he was able to prevail in the sprint of a group of three riders who originally belonged to a breakaway group of 13 and two stage wins at the Giro d'Italia 2003 and 2007 . He also won the overall ranking of the Tour of Denmark in 2002 and the one-day race E3 Harelbeke in 2008, both races in the hors category at the time .
In 2006 he took second place in the French autumn classic Paris-Tours . Arversen has been Norwegian national champion several times, including five times in the elite road race . He represented his country at the 2000 and 2004 Olympics , finishing ninth in road races in 2004.
In 1997 he received the Kongepokal (King's Cup), which is awarded for the best athletic performance at Norwegian championships.
At the end of the 2011 season, Arvesen ended his career as a professional cyclist and coached his last team to be active, the UCI ProTeam Sky ProCycling . In 2017 he became the sporting director of the Uno-X Norwegian Development Team .
