Edvald Boasson Hagen (born May 17, 1987 in Lillehammer ) is a Norwegian cyclist .
Career
Edvald Boasson Hagen became Norwegian junior champion on the road in 2004. A year later he defended this title and was also time trial champion. He also won stages in the junior races of the Peace Tour and the Lower Saxony Tour . In 2006 he drove for the Maxbo Bianchi team and mainly took part in U23 races. He won stages in the Tour Nord-Isère , the Ringerike GP and the Thuringia Tour . He also decided three stages in the Tour de l'Avenir for himself.
For the 2008 season he received his first contract with a UCI ProTeam with Team Columbia . For this team he won u. a. With a stage of the ENECO Tour in 2008 his first UCI ProTour race, in 2009 with Gent – Wevelgem his first classic , with a stage of the Giro d'Italia in 2009 his first Grand Tour stage and with the overall ranking of the Eneco Tour 2009 his first ProTour Stage race .
In 2010 he switched to the Sky Professional Cycling Team and won the 6th stage to Lisieux and the 17th stage to Pinerolo in the 2011 Tour de France . In 2012 he won the points classification at the Tour Down Under in January . Another stage win in the Algarve Tour in Portugal should follow in February . In addition, he was also first in the points evaluation there. In March 2012 he won a stage in the Tirreno-Adriatico . On his home tour , the Tour of Norway , he won a stage and the overall ranking. This was followed by a stage at the Critérium du Dauphiné . He also won the Norwegian championship title in the individual time trial and road race . At the end of August he won the UCI WorldTour race Grand Prix Ouest France in Brittany .
At the end of the 2012 season he won the silver medal in the road race of the World Championship in Valkenburg in the Netherlands behind Belgian Philippe Gilbert .
2013 also followed again the win of the Tour of Norway and the championship title in the individual time trial as well as a stage at the Criterium du Dauphine . He also won the bronze medal in the team time trial with Team Sky at the World Championships in Florence . After not achieving any particular success in 2014, he switched to the South African team MTN-Qhubeka in 2015 . There he won a stage of the Tour of the Fjord and the championship titles in road racing and in the individual time trial. In addition, there was the overall victory in the Tour of Britain . In 2016 he was again Norwegian double champion and won one day each at the WorldTour stage races Critérium du Dauphiné and Eneco Tour 2016 .
At the Tour de France 2017 he was able to win the 19th stage with a five-second lead over Nikias Arndt , with whom he initially separated from a top group of nine, three kilometers from the finish, before he also distanced him. Before that, he finished second in the mass sprint on the 7th stage to Nuits-Saint-Georges , six millimeters behind Marcel Kittel .
In 2018 Boasson Hagen became Norwegian champion in the individual time trial for the fourth time in a row and thus for the tenth time.
