The stages in detail

The race took place in the province of South Australia around the capital Adelaide . As every year, the Tour Down Under was the focus of the Festival of Cycling , a week-long event that is all about bikes in South Australia.

Down Under Classic

The criterion over 51 kilometers in Adelaide , the capital of South Australia , opened the Tour Down Under 2012 and included four premium sprints. It does not count towards the overall ranking or the ranking of the UCI World Tour and consisted of 30 flat laps of 1.7 kilometers each. Before the Down Under Classic, the participating teams were presented to the audience.

5th stage, McClaren Vale - Willunga

As in previous years, the fifth day section in the south of the province was the “king's stage” of the Tour Down Under and this year, at 151.5 kilometers, it was also the longest section. With Willunga Hill, which had to be climbed twice, the most difficult climb of the tour had to be taken. The two mountain classifications of the first category of the day were carried out on the summit, and there are two sprints on the route. For the first time in the history of the race, the finish line was on Willunga Hill, so a small mountain finish decided the outcome of the race.
