The 16th Tour Down Under was the first race of the UCI WorldTour 2014 . It took place from January 21 to 26, 2014. Two days before the start of the tour, the race was opened with the People's Choice Classic (also known as the Down Under Classic ) criterion , which did not count towards the overall standings. In the mass sprint of the Down Under Classic , Marcel Kittel (GIA) prevailed ahead of André Greipel (LTB). The overall ranking of the tour was decided by the Australian Simon Gerrans from the Australian team Orica GreenEdge for the third time after 2006 and 2012 .

Attendees

The 18 ProTeams were entitled to start . In contrast to previous years, a second team received a wildcard in 2014 . As in previous years, one received the team from the University of South Australia (UniSA), the other received the Professional Continental Team Drapac Cycling . Each team started with 7 drivers, so the peloton consisted of 140 drivers.
