The 8th Jacob's Creek Tour Down Under took place from January 17th to 22nd, 2006. The bike race was held in six stages over a distance of 645 kilometers.

As traditionally in previous years, the Tour Down Under was the first high-profile race of the 2006 season. It is part of the UCI Oceania Tour 2006 and is classified in the highest category, 2nd HC. The race was tailored for sprinters like Robbie McEwen and Thor Hushovd and started with one criterion in Adelaide , the Jacob's Creek Down Under Classic . The last stage was also held on the Adelaide City Council Circuit .
