Al Kasha
Al Kasha (born January 22, 1937 in New York City , † September 14, 2020 in Los Angeles ) was an American composer and songwriter .
Live and act
Kasha started writing songs at the age of 17. The songs My Empty Arms , I'm Comin 'Back to You and Forever and a Day by R'n'B legend Jackie Wilson came from his pen. In 1960, Kasha signed a contract with Columbia Records , on whose behalf he composed music for various television series. In the years that followed, Kasha worked with Clive Davis , Eydie Gormé , Neil Diamond , Rodney Dangerfield and Aretha Franklin .
In 1971, Kasha teamed up with Joel Hirschhorn . Both have been nominated four times for an Oscar , four times for the Golden Globe and twice for the Tony Award . In 1973 they received the Oscar for The Morning After in Poseidon's Descent into Hell , sung by Maureen McGovern , and in 1975 for May Never Love Like This Again, the theme song of the film Flaming Inferno , which was also sung by Maureen McGovern.
Kasha and Hirschhorn sold 93 million records and wrote three books. After parting ways in the mid-1980s, Kasha composed and produced the Las Vegas revue Let the Good Times Roll . From 1995 to 1998 he was President of the Family Channel's music division . During this time he founded his own production company Kasha Entertainment Company , where he worked with David Foster , among others . In 2004 Al Kasha received an ASCAP Country Award for Streets of Heaven from Sherrié Austin .
He died on September 14, 2020 at the age of 83.
