Maureen McGovern
Maureen McGovern (* 27. July 1949 in Youngstown , Ohio ) is an American singer and Broadway - Actress .
Live and act
After McGovern graduated from high school in 1967 , she worked as a secretary and sang in a folk band called Sweet Rain . 20th Century Records undertook in 1972 McGovern as a singer for the title song The Morning After the disaster film The Poseidon Adventure , written by Al Kasha and Joel Hirschhorn . The song reached number 1 on the US Billboard charts in 1973 and was awarded an Oscar . In the two following years she sang again the title songs for the films Flammendes Inferno and Gold , for the song We May Never Love Like This Again there was another Oscar ( 1975 ). There was an Oscar nomination for Wherever Love Takes Me .
In the early 1980s McGovern starred in various Broadway productions. In the middle of the decade she gradually resumed her solo career and became the interpreter of numerous compositions of the Great American Songbook . She dedicated one CD each to the work of Harold Arlen (Out of This World), George Gershwin (Naughty Baby) and Alan Bergman & Marilyn Bergman (The Music Never Ends). In 1989 she sang for the first time at Carnegie Hall . In 1996 and 1997 McGovern was nominated for a Grammy .
In 2008 she released A Long and Winding Road, an album with cover versions of famous pop songs by Paul Simon , Bob Dylan , James Taylor , Lennon / McCartney and others.
