The 10th Tour Down Under took place from January 22nd to 27th, 2008. The bike race was held in six stages over a distance of 785 kilometers. It was part of the UCI ProTour as the first race outside of Europe . It was opened with the Down Under Classic , which was not part of the ProTour rating.
Driver Elia Rigotto was disqualified after headbutted Australian Mathew Hayman in the final sprint of the fourth stage. Hayman suffered a broken collarbone . It was the first time in the Tour Down Under that a rider was withdrawn from the race.
