Elia Rigotto (2008)

Elia Rigotto (born March 4, 1982 in Vicenza ) is a former Italian cyclist .

Elia Rigotto won a number of U23 races in 2004: He won the Trofeo Zssdi , the GP Joseph Bruyère and three stages of the Giro delle Regioni . In 2005 he received a professional contract with the Italian ProTeam Domina Vacanze . From 2006 to 2008 he drove for the German-Italian successor team Milram and in his first year there he won a stage win in the Mediterranean Tour . In 2006 he finished fourth in the mass sprint at Paris-Nice on two stages. In 2006 he started at the Giro d'Italia and the following year at the Vuelta a España .

In 2008 Rigotto was disqualified from the Tour Down Under after he headbutted Australian racing driver Mathew Hayman in the final sprint. Hayman suffered a broken collarbone . It was the first time in the Tour Down Under that a rider was withdrawn from the race. In 2009 Elia Rigotto ended his cycling career.
