José Joaquín Rojas Gil (born June 2, 1985 in Cieza ) is a Spanish cyclist .
Career
Rojas Gil became a professional in 2006 with Team Liberty Seguros-Würth , for whose farm team he drove in 2004 and 2005 and for which he drove as a stagiaire in autumn 2005 . For this team he won the mountain classification of the Tirreno – Adriatico stage race .
In 2007 Rojas Gil moved to the Caisse d'Epargne team and won his first international cycle race with a stage of the Tour of Murcia . In the next few years he was successful in various one-day races and stages. The most important successes included the Spanish championship in 2011 and 2016 as well as a stage of the Tour of the Basque Country in 2012 .
In the course of the doping investigation by the Public Prosecutor of Padua at the end of 2014, he was suspected of having been a customer of the controversial sports medicine specialist Michele Ferrari .
Family and private
José Joaquín Rojas Gil's older brother Mariano was also a professional cyclist and rode for Team Once between 1994 and 1996 . He died in June 1996 while racing for the Spanish Road Championship after colliding head-on with a truck.
In November 2015, Rojas was due to have a heart operation for Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome . However, the operation turned out to be unnecessary.
