The 105th cycling classic Milan – Sanremo took place on March 23, 2014. As in the previous year, the race took place on a Sunday. It was part of the UCI World Tour 2014 and the fourth race within it. The Norwegian Alexander Kristoff from the Russian team Katusha won .

The 18 ProTeams were entitled to start . In addition, the organizer gave wildcards to seven Professional Continental Teams . Each team competed with eight drivers.

Race course

In bad weather conditions, the race started around 9:50 a.m. At the beginning, a top group of seven around Nicola Boem , Antonio Parrinello , Marc de Maar , Matteo Bono , Maarten Tjallingii , Nathan Haas and Jan Bárta managed to break away . The outliers were able to pull out a lead of 10 minutes before the Cannondale team around Peter Sagan began the pace work in the peloton. With 70 kilometers to go, there were only five drivers left in the lead. Nicola Boem was left behind and Nathan Haas lost the connection due to a defect. Before the Cipressa was reached, the rain subsided. In the ascent to the Cipressa there were attacks from the main field. Vincenzo Nibali was able to pull away 25 kilometers from the finish. The Italian had already overtaken the last members of the former leading group 20 kilometers from the finish. He could pull out a maximum of 49 seconds ahead of the peloton . Nibali was overtaken by the field nine kilometers from the finish. There were several attacks on the ascent to Poggio di Sanremo , but none of them could break away from the field. The result was a sprint for a group of 25, which Alexander Kristoff won ahead of Fabian Cancellara and Ben Swift .
