The UCI World Tour in 2014 consisted of 29 cycling races , including the three-week tour Tour de France , Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España ( Grand Tours ), as well as major cycling classics , including the five monuments of cycling Milan-San Remo , Tour of Flanders , Paris-Roubaix , Liège – Bastogne – Liège and Giro di Lombardia . The competitions take place from January to October 2013. In each race, the final placing ( one-day race) or the stage and overall placements ( stage races ) award points that have been added to world rankings for drivers, teams and nations.
Participants were the specially licensed ProTeams . In addition, Professional Continental Teams can be invited by the respective race organizer. A national team from the host country is also entitled to participate in certain competitions such as the Tour Down Under in Australia or the Tour of Poland .
The individual competition was won by the Spaniard Alejandro Valverde with a lead of 66 points over his compatriot Alberto Contador . Movistar repeated its victory from the previous year in the team classification. The Nations Cup was won for the third time in a row by Spain .

Distribution of points
In the UCI WorldTour , points are awarded for the UCI World Ranking as follows:
- Category 1 : Tour de France
- Category 2 : Giro d'Italia , Vuelta a España
- Category 3 : Monuments of cycling , remaining eleven stage races
- Category 4 : Remaining nine one-day races
The team ranking and the nation ranking are determined by adding the points of the 5 best drivers of each team or nation. Teams that place in the top ten in the team time trial of the 2014 UCI Road World Championships will receive additional points .
