Luka Mezgec (born June 27, 1988 ) is a Slovenian cyclist . In road cycling , he is considered a sprint specialist who can also cope with hilly terrain. He also competes in mountain bike and cross country races .
Athletic career
Luka Mezgec won the overall ranking of the UCI Nations' Cup U23 - stage race Coupe des Nations Ville Saguenay in 2010 and his first international elite race in 2011 with a stage of the Istrian Spring Trophy .
From the 2013 season, Mezgec received a contract with the UCI ProTeam Team Argos-Shimano , for which he had a total of six daily stages of races in the UCI WorldTour : one stage each of the Tour of Beijing 2013 and 2014, three of the Tour of Catalonia 2014 and the 21st and last stage of the Giro d'Italia 2014 , before Giacomo Nizzolo and Tyler Farrar from a mass sprint.
For the 2016 season, Mezgec moved to the Australian team Orica GreenEdge . He won two stages of the Tour of Poland 2019 in the sprint .
In addition to being on the road, Mezgez is also successful in mountain bike races and cyclocross. After becoming Slovenian champion in the MTB cross country discipline in 2009 and 2015 , he managed a hat trick in 2017 by winning titles in road racing, MTB cross country and cyclocross .
