Tyler Farrar (born June 2, 1984 in Wenatchee , Washington ) is a retired American cyclist . Farrar was considered one of the world's best sprinters in road cycling .
Farrar started his career at Jelly Belly in 2003 . A year later he moved to Health Net and he became more successful. In 2004 he was the US champion of the U23 class and won, as in 2005, a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir .
A season later he was then US-akeriknischer Criterion Champion and got a contract from 2006 with Cofidis . He moved to Ghent with his girlfriend and learned to speak Flemish fluently.
From 2008 to 2014 Farrar drove for the American team Garmin-Transitions . There he developed into one of the world's best sprinters in road cycling. His greatest successes include two victories at the Vattenfall Cyclassics in 2009 and 2010, as well as stage wins at the Vuelta a España , the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France .
During the Giro d'Italia 2011 , Farrar got out of the tour after the neutralized fourth stage. The reason for this was the accidental death of his best friend Wouter Weylandt from Team Leopard Trek on the third stage.
At the end of the 2017 season, Farrar ended his career as an active cyclist.
